Anne - I'm sorry to hear about Sally. I lost my 12 yo dog to hemangiosarcoma last year, so I know what a tough situation it can be. In my case, it was a very quick onset and his quality of life deteroriated drastically within a week.

The good/great news about lymphoma is that it is very treatable with chemotherapy. I volunteer in an animal cancer clinic and we see a lot of happy golden retrievers with lymphoma that end up in remission for an extra five years that they wouldn't have had otherwise.

Hi Anne, I just started blogging as an attempt to write, reflect, share photos, stay connected with family. I remembered you were one of the first people to tell me about blogging, then I found you. Congrats on your book. All is well, we are still on Maui. I am actually writing a book myself. A couple in fact. Kind of fun.

Hope you are well.

I love what you did for Shrove Tuesday. You have inspired me to go beyond my own traditions.

I am from the UK and it is traditional to have pancakes on Shrove Tuesday. So this year, I chose to make them in my Texas house. Served with opwdered sugar and freshly squeezed lemon. Think crepes not pancakes though!

Now, on Good Friday we have Hot Cross Buns with our afternoon tea. I shall be making those too......

I posted the recipe for the pancakes among other foolishness on the blog - link attached and repeated here.

Hi Catherine - my sister lives in New Orleans and told me that when you buy a king cake at the bakery the baby comes separately, so no worries about the kids eating it! You can just leave it out.

I actually put two babies in mine -- one for each of my girls. But they are 7 and 4 and they knew the babies were in there.

Meeting up -- that's not scary! That's a great idea. We'll have to do coffee sometime. In March I'm coming out of my self-imposed seclusion and trying to get better connected locally. Would love to meet you too :)

Your king cake is BEAUTIFUL. I've in the past considered buying one online from a place in NOLA that does that. But then, I have little kids and worry that they'll eat the baby. Does yours have a baby? I make fantastic gumbo if you want to invite me over for next year's Fat Tuesday. I've been trying to think of a way to meet you :)

That sounded much scarier than intended.

Hi Carl, nice to hear from you. You can see I'm a bit behind on my food blogging here!

Maui Prince... sounds nice! Rick and I were just remembering our Maui Thanksgivings. One time I decided to buy a turkey loaf to save money. Bad idea! I'm glad to be here in Colorado with family, but wish I could have taken a post-turkey walk on the beach.

Hope you're doing well.

Although your post led up to Halloween, I'll admit we're winging it for Thanksgiving. My parents are visiting a couple of days after, so rather than plan a big meal for 3, we’re tackling some home fix-it projects we had let slide, and leaving the cooking to the Maui Prince.

Actually, we’ve been winging it for a couple of months. Our survival cooking methods and lack of regular exercise had caused Kelly and I both to balloon a bit. So, we’re only now taking back responsibility for our feeding, after having Jenny Craig remind us how to control our portions. Kelly’s shoulder is now back into tennis mode, and we make sure to put in a couple of miles during our evening walk.

This sounds sooo yummy! It could be because it's dinner time; but I am definitely gonna try it! I can't decide whether to add rice as a side or wrap it in a flour tortilla...decisions, decisions.
